8th Grade Syllabus

Text book

My Perspectives:  English Language Arts (Pearson, 2017).

Each student will be given a "consumable" text book, that is, a text in which he/she can write, annotate, remove pages, etc., and which can be taken home at the end of the school year.  In addition, each student will be able to access an online copy of the text book from anywhere!

Texts will be stored in the classroom for the duration of the school year, as we make use of these books frequently for reading selections, language study, writing strategies, etc.

Homework Policy

Weekly Assignment

Students will be expected to read for 20-30 minutes at least 5 days per week.  At times, they may be assigned a specific text, but more often than not, students will read books of their own choosing.  (Click here for some reasons why to read daily.)
  • Students will submit a reading log and written response on a weekly basis.  The responses will be selected from a menu of activities, and will count for a weekly homework grade.
  • The weekly reading assignment will be due each Monday.

Incomplete/Missing Work
  • On occasion, students may need to bring home incomplete tasks to finish.
  • Students are responsible for making up any missed work due to absence.
